Orchestra Conductor/Director of String Activities – Bethel University St Paul, Minnesota
Conductor of the Bethel University orchestra program and Director of String Activities. Audition, program, and conduct the Chamber and Philharmonic orchestras in four concerts each year including a Chamber Orchestra tour. Also prepare, and conduct as needed, the Festival Orchestra for Festival of Christmas and Spring Classics concert. Recruit, develop, and coach Chamber Ensembles program. Teach String Methods and private lessons according to candidate’s academic background and professional career. Director of String Activities duties include supervising string teaching faculty, assign teachers within the string program, leading string studio class, recruit string students, assign and supervise string scholarships.
Proven track record of musical success as a performer as well as significant experience as a conductor required. Strong interpersonal skills in order to attract and retain student musicians in the orchestra program. Must possess thorough knowledge of the orchestral canon and be able to choose literature appropriate for the ability level of the students. Candidate must be committed to the liberal arts educational mission and evangelical Christian orientation of the University and demonstrate commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching. Candidate must demonstrate the ability to contribute to Bethel’s anti-racism efforts and cross-cultural understanding.
Master’s degree required; doctorate preferred, in conducting, music performance, or music education.
Salary and rank commensurate with qualifications and experience. Position open Fall 2017.
