Presented by the International Conducting Institute, this one-week intensive course will take place March 19-24, 2017, in New York City, and will focus on conducting (baton) technique and effective communication with the baton and body. Lead faculty will be Donald Schleicher; guests will include Diane Wittry and Jesse Rosen; the ensemble will be the Astoria Symphony Orchestra, an excellent paid orchestra. REPERTOIRE: Wagner Siegfried Idyll, Copland Appalachian Spring Suite (13 inst.), and Mahler Symphony No. 4 (Yoon Jae Lee reduction). Only 14 active participants will be accepted. Tuition: $1,299 for active participants ($349 for auditors), not including travel and accommodations.
 
COURSE INCLUDES:
  • 4 video-taped conducting sessions with ensembles (10+ minutes each)
  • 2 video reviews
  • 1 session with Jesse Rosen at League of American Orchestras
  • 1 score study/baton technique class
  • 1 rehearsal techniques class with Don Schliecher
  • 1 programming, music director, job interview class with Don Schliecher
  • 1 body alignment & conducting class with Diane Wittry
  • 1 port de bras (arm movement) class
  • 1 “Profession of Conducting” Class (resume and audition info)
