About the Orchestra
The orchestral program at UNC Charlotte reimagines the ensemble as an instrument of social potential, and its performances as an act of public service. Since 2013, under the direction of Dr. Jonathan Govias, the Chamber Orchestra has led numerous initiatives combining service with learning in North Carolina, Canada, England, Scotland and Israel, through side-by-side interactions and residencies with music education and outreach programs across the state.
The Chamber Orchestra represents the highest-level orchestral performance group at the UNC Charlotte. The ensemble is devoted to the exploration of the repertoire of the orchestra, as well as the art and science of musical collaboration. Students are accepted into the ensemble through a highly competitive audition process.
