OPPORTUNITY FOR A KENT STATE UNIVERSITY ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF ORCHESTRAL CONDUCTING.
TENURE-TRACK – 9 MONTHS
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
CONDUCT AND ADMINISTER ALL ACTIVITIES OF THE ORCHESTRA PROGRAM.
TEACH UNDERGRADUATE AND GRADUATE CONDUCTING AND OTHER AREAS BASED ON THE CANDIDATE’S EXPERTISE AND THE NEEDS OF THE PROGRAM.
COLLABORATE WITH ENSEMBLE CONDUCTORS AND OTHER SCHOOL OF MUSIC FACULTY.
RECRUIT STUDENTS FOR THE PROGRAM AND PURSUE ENSEMBLE OUTREACH OPPORTUNITIES.
SERVE AS OFFICIAL MEMBER OF THE KENT STATE UNIVERSITY ORCHESTRA SOCIETY, A COMMUNITY ORGANIZATION THAT RAISES FUNDS FOR SCHOLARSHIPS FOR MEMBERS OF THE KENT STATE UNIVERSITY ORCHESTRA.
OTHER DUTIES INCLUDE ADVISING AND MENTORING STUDENTS, AND PERFORMING OTHER UNIVERSITY AND PROFESSIONAL SERVICE, AS APPROPRIATE. MAINTAIN AND CONTINUE TO DEVELOP A NATIONAL REPUTATION AS AN ORCHESTRAL CONDUCTOR AND PEDAGOGUE.
GRADUATE DEGREE IN CONDUCTING REQUIRED. DOCTORATE OR EQUIVALENT PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE PREFERRED.
STRONG COMMITMENT TO TEACHING AND TO THE EDUCATIONAL ASPECTS OF THE ORCHESTRAL EXPERIENCE.
DEMONSTRATED ABILITY TO DIRECT AN ORCHESTRAL PROGRAM AT THE UNIVERSITY LEVEL. ORGANIZATIONAL SKILLS REQUIRED FOR OVERSEEING THE ADMINISTRATION OF AN ORCHESTRAL PROGRAM.
PROVEN SUCCESS AS AN ORCHESTRAL CONDUCTOR IN A WIDE RANGE OF REPERTOIRE.
EXPERIENCE TEACHING CONDUCTING AT THE UNDERGRADUATE AND GRADUATE LEVELS PREFERRED.
DEMONSTRATED SUCCESS IN RECRUITMENT PREFERRED.
Must pass a security check.
