THE CONDUCTING SYMPOSIUM OF THE AMERICAS (May 29-June 2, 2017)  is a joint effort between Vanderbilt University and the Direccion de Bandas de Costa Rica.  It will be hosted by the Banda de Conciertos de Cartago (one of the seven professional national bands of Costa Rica).  Clinicians will be Ricardo Vargas, Conductor of the Cartago Band, Christopher Hughes, Director of Bands at Ithaca College, and Thomas Verrier, Senior Band Conductor at Vanderbilt University’s Blair School of Music.

The four-day symposium will include conducting workshops and sessions on a range of topics pertinent to the wind conductor.  The activities will culminate with each participant conducting the band in performance.  The event is bilingual, so participants will come from throughout North and South America.  This is a great opportunity for working conductors as well as graduate students to add an international experience to their resumes.  Participants will meet conductors from different countries, make new friends, and establish a new network of contacts.
