Conduct the Bacau Philharmonic Daily at the Advanced Conducting Academy June 17 – July 1

 

Join Maestro Ovidiu Balan, Music Director of the Bacau Philharmonic and Dr. Charles Gambetta. Maestro Gutter’s student for 20 years and creator of the Embodied Conducting Method, for a celebration of Maestro Robert Gutter’s life and remarkable career as conductor and pedagogue!

 

The International Institute for Conductors will accept up to 12 conductors for two weeks of conducting study and performance at the 18th Advanced Conducting Academy in Bacau Romania from June 17 to July 1, 2017.

 

The Bacau Philharmonic returns for its 14th year as host orchestra. Consistently rewarded with critical and public acclaim, the Philharmonic is a full-time professional orchestra that presents over 100 concerts a year in Bacau plus numerous tours in Europe and Asia including Italy, France, Germany, Spain, Gibraltar, Greece, Malta, Russia and China.

 

The Academy’s incredible repertoire list includes Beethoven Symphony No. 3, Brahms Variations on Theme by Haydn, Mendelssohn Symphony No. 3, Mozart Symphony No. 39, Prokofiev Classical Symphony, Stravinsky L’Histoire du Soldat, opera arias by Donizetti, Mozart, Puccini, Verdi, Rossini and Wagner, Bartok Concerto for Orchestra, Brahms Symphony No. 1, Dvořák Symphony No. 7, Elgar Enigma Variations, R. Strauss Till Eulenspiegel’s lustige Streich, Tchaikovsky Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture and more.

 

Participating conductors each receive approximately 150 minutes of podium time with full professional orchestra, 60 additional minutes with string quintet and piano plus 40 minutes of video review with faculty, score study and musicianship masterclasses and daily Embodied Conducting™ instruction. All participants will conduct on 2 of the Institute’s 4 public concerts, and the faculty may extend an invitation to one conductor for a full concert with the Bacau Philharmonic the following year.
