Interim Music Director of the Boise Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (BPYO) (1 year)

The Boise Philharmonic is looking for a dynamic individual to lead its 90 member youth orchestra.

The Music Director of the Boise Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (BPYO) will conduct the orchestra and function as its Artistic Director, under the direction of the Music Director of the Boise Philharmonic Orchestra.

Primary Responsibilities include:

  • Conduct all rehearsals of the orchestra in preparation for three concerts during the season
  • Strive to give the students performing, and the audience listening, an artistic and

    educational experience.

  • Develop a rehearsal calendar which serves to lead the students of the orchestra

    through their own development as young musicians and increase their ability to

    contribute to the ensemble.

  • Develop artistic path for the Youth Orchestra through the duration of the Music

    Director’s tenure and through each season.

  • Inspire students to develop inquisitive musical minds through careful selection of

    repertoire, concert formats and venues, use of sectional coaches, professional

    musicians, and other innovative activities as appropriate.

  • Provide leadership to sectional coaches facilitating effective and efficient use of their

    musical and educational skills.

  • Attend key meetings of the Boise Philharmonic as required and serve as an advocate

    for the Youth Orchestra within the larger institution.

  • Be an active participant, under guidance of administrative staff in fundraising,

    marketing, and operational duties of the Youth Orchestra.

  • Serve as an advocate, ambassador, and teacher working on behalf of the Youth

    Orchestra in the education community and beyond.

  • Serve as a resource for area music educators through school visits, consultations,

    and other educational activities.


    Master’s degree in conducting, 5 years’ experience, able to work with youth
