Toward this end, the successful candidate will be expected to have strong string teaching as well as conducting skills.

• Designing, implementing, and assessing the program throughout the year.
• Auditioning players to determine placement in one of the two orchestras.
• Selecting and securing music, including using the existing extensive Suzuki String School of Guelph (SSSG) orchestral library, and purchasing any program equipment and supplies as has been pre-approved for full reimbursement upon submission of receipts.
• Weekly rehearsals on Saturday mornings during the school year.
• Maintaining contact with GYMC office staff prior to, at the onset of, and during the
program as necessary or required.
• Ensuring the safety and comfort of each participant.
• Assuring and arranging for any necessary volunteer assistance for the program.
• Organizing annual orchestra retreats in the fall for the purpose of rehearsals, sectionals and team building.
• Two end-of-session public concerts (December and May).
• A yearly orchestra workshop with a guest clinician.
• Participation of both orchestras in the Guelph Kiwanis Festival.
• Possible additional community and/or school concert(s) for public service and recruitment.
• Assisting in the marketing and promotion of the program.
• Maintaining positive conduct throughout the duration of the program.
• Acting in a professional manner as a representative of the GYMC.
• Finding a suitable substitute instructor if unable to attend a rehearsal(s) or concert(s).
• Work with the GYMC Orchestra Committee comprised of the GYMC ED, teacher and parent members, and also adhere to the Conductor-Teacher Agreement and GYMC program guidelines.
