job summary

  • prepares the chorus for all appearances with the epo, in collaboration with the music director, during the epo season (typically august through may).
  • plans, organizes, prepares and conducts independent choral concerts as developed or assigned.
  • works closely with the chorus manager and the chorus advisory committee in the coordination of all aspects of chorus activities, including community outreach activities.
  • conductor is expected to be a team player in working with others to achieve the organization’s artistic goals and uphold the highest possible standards for the epc. conductor is also expected to assist in promoting the activities of the epc in the community, assist in recruiting members, participate in epc public relations and marketing events and be a spokesperson for the organization, and serve as a public ambassador for the epc and epo.

    duties

  • conducts weekly rehearsals, opera rehearsals, dress rehearsals and independent chorus concerts.
  • plans music for independent chorus concerts.
  • oversees acquisition of music and other supplies with chorus manager.
  • oversees acquisition of appropriate rehearsal and concert space in all venues with chorus manager.
  • oversees planning for required accompaniment at rehearsals and concerts with chorus manager.
  • arranges for quality soloists for independent chorus concerts as needed.
  • attends chorus board and advisory meetings as necessary
  • holds auditions for new singers twice a year and re-audition current singers as needed for special choruses and to maintain balance and overall quality.
  • maintains and improves the musicianship of the chorus.
  • perform other functions as necessary to meet the mission and goals of the chorus.
  • meets a variable schedule to include evening and weekend hours.
