The Jacobs School of Music seeks applicants for a tenure‐track faculty position in the Department of Bands/Wind Conducting. The successful candidate will possess demonstrable strengths as a scholar and musician, will be able to work effectively with faculty colleagues, and will be able to inspire gifted students in a highly competitive and professionally‐oriented educational environment.


Teach undergraduate and graduate classes as assigned which may include conducting, wind band repertoire, wind band history, music education, and related courses; serve as primary conductor of the Wind Ensemble (with other full-time Wind Conducting faculty serving as guest conductors); maintain and build upon the superior international reputation of the IU Wind Ensemble; guest conduct the other all music-major wind bands; guide DM documents in Wind Conducting; assist the Chair of the Bands/Wind Conducting Department in all creative and administrative aspects of a large university band program; serve as Chair of the Band/Wind Conducting Department on a rotational basis with tenured faculty in Band Wind/Conducting Department; Recruit high quality MM and DM Wind Conducting students;  Participation in department activities, student recruitment, service on doctoral committees, and on Jacobs School committees, is expected.


Demonstrated success as a concert wind band conductor and educator at the highest level. Master’s degree required, doctoral degree preferred. Strong evidence of successful K-12 and university teaching experience preferred. Documented accomplishments as a pedagogue and conductor in the field of wind band conducting, with outstanding recordings, published books, articles and/or scholarly editions.
