Montreal Choral Institute CHORAL CONDUCTING MASTERCLASS – NINTH EDITION

In March 2018, the Montreal Choral Institute will once again be offering its annual three-day intensive workshop on choral conducting. Six conductors selected from among all applicants will work individually with some top-notch Montreal choirs under the guidance of internationally renowned conductor Andrew Megill.

Since his appointment as Choral Director of the OSM Chorus a few years ago, Andrew Megill has earned the respect and admiration of everyone on the Montreal musical scene, be they choristers, soloists, instrumentalists, composers, colleagues or members of the public. Conductors wishing to apply are asked to forward the following documents to masterclass@montrealchoralinstitute.ca (via YouSendIt, DropBox or any other file-sharing service):

  • Letter of interest
  • Résumé
  • Two or three excerpts from video or audio recordings of their work

Applicants selected for active participation will be informed of the Institute’s decision on January 12, 2018. One of the participants from Canada will receive the $500 Iwan Edwards Award (see sidebar for more details).

Enrolment fee

(in Canadian dollars)

Active participants

Regular: $400

Full-time students: $300

Auditors: $50

For active participants, the enrolment fee covers the following:

  • Thirty (30) minutes at the podium during each session with choir (for a total of two hours)
  • Individual evaluation
  • Group work on selected themes

Auditors will be invited to attend the sessions with choir and to take part in a group session held specifically for them.

Other expenses
Please note that participants are responsible for all travel, accommodation and incidental expenses. The Institute can, however, provide assistance in finding accommodation and reasonably priced meals.


 

Sessions open to the public

Members of the public have access to all sessions with choir (see schedule above). Admission is free, but free-will offerings are welcome.
