Shenandoah Conservatory is undertaking a nationwide search for a one-year Visiting Music Director to join the Musical Theatre faculty in its Theatre Division. This full-time and one-year position at the rank of Assistant Professor begins August 15, 2018.

Responsibilities: The incoming Music Director will provide exceptional pre-professional training while further strengthening students’ connections to the musical theatre industry. Towards that end, the candidate will be expected to:

  • Provide music direction and vocal coaching for 2-3 musicals per year (including conducting the pit orchestra with Conservatory music students for mainstage musicals);
  • Teach Musical Theatre History, co-teach senior year Acting Through Song and Senior Showcase;
  • Further strengthen the program’s ties to the musical theatre industry;
  • Actively participate in faculty meetings, auditions, and recruitment activities.

Qualifications: Successful candidates will possess all of the following minimal qualifications:

  • Significant professional theatre credits as a music director;
  • Exceptional piano skills;
  • An understanding of contemporary musical theatre, contemporary interpretations of traditional shows, pop/rock styles, and corresponding vocal techniques;
  • A passion for mentoring emerging professionals in an encouraging atmosphere with a growth oriented mindset;
  • A completed graduate degree or commensurate professional experience.
