Job Summary/Basic Function: The College of Music at the University of North Texas is looking for a conductor of high artistic standards and sensitivity to join the Wind Studies Area within the Division of Ensembles and Conducting. The successful candidate will be expected to provide musical leadership, help guide student’s’ careers and work collaboratively with the Divisions of Conducting and Ensembles and Conducting, Instrumental Studies, and Music Education. Additionally, they s/he should be able to play an active and effective role in recruiting and retaining players connecting with band directors in Texas and engaging with the broader wind band community regionally, nationally and internationally.

Teaching: conduct the Symphonic Band; teach undergraduate advanced instrumental conducting, graduate courses and conducting lessons: mentor graduate students; other duties as assigned, in accordance with the candidate’s strengths; other duties as assigned by the Division and/or the College.

Research/Creative Activity: guest conducting of regional, national, and international significance; presentations and clinics in the candidate’s area of expertise in respected, peer-reviewed national/international settings; may also include scholarly publications in peer-reviewed journals and books with national and international reach.

Service: provide service to the College of Music, the University, and the wind band profession at-large in ways that align with the interests of the applicant; recruit outstanding undergraduate and graduate students into the Wind Studies program; coordinate the Conductors Collegium and Related Field in Wind Band conducting; assist with the administration of the Wind Studies Area, as needed; other duties as assigned by the Division and/or the College.

Minimum Qualifications: Master’s Degree in Wind Band Conducting or Music Education required; evidence of an emerging record of creative activity, including guest conducting engagements of regional and national significance; prior teaching at the college, university, or conservatory level.

Preferred Qualifications: Doctorate or Ph.D. in Conducting preferred; evidence of successful college teaching; experience mentoring graduate students; knowledge of a diverse repertoire from various style periods of music.
