The Collegium presents an opportunity for instrumental music educators of all levels from
around the world to meet and discuss common goals, shared concerns, and practical solutions
with colleagues, performers, and composers. The format is designed to allow maximum flexibility
in examining topics that are of paramount interest to the participants. The goal of the Collegium is
to help those in attendance broaden their perspectives by providing an environment that creates a
positive opportunity for dialogue, investigation, and exchange.

As many as 40 conductors will be selected to rehearse and perform on one of four concerts
with the North Texas Wind Symphony. Comments regarding rehearsal approach and conducting
pedagogy will be made on videotape. Non-conducting participants will follow scores and listen
to the clinicians via headphones, allowing all to learn the repertoire and stay integrally involved
as the rehearsals progress. Assigned concert repertoire will be selected from the book Teaching
Music Through Performance in Band, Volume 7, grade 4 (GIA, 2008). In addition, Mr. Corporon
and guests will offer lectures and lead discussions throughout the twelve-day session on a variety
of related subjects. Morning sessions will focus on selected masterworks as well as musical and
philosophical issues, combined with analytical, technical and pedagogical concerns.

“The musicians were terrific, never judgmental, and as interested in my succeeding as I was…
not just great players but great people!”
