International Conducting Workshop: Winning the Audition with
Henry Fogel, Mark Gibson, and Daniel O’Bryant, panelists.

Henry Fogel
-Former President of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Executive Director of the
National Symphony Orchestra and the League of American Orchestras.
-Adjudicator for many international conducting competitions and artistic consultant for many professional orchestras.

Mark Gibson
-Professor of Music and Director of Orchestral Studies, Cincinnati Conservatory of Music
-Principal Guest Conductor of the Sichuan Conservatory Symphony Orchestra, and Regular Conductor of the China National Opera

Daniel O’Bryant
-Director of Orchestras, Northern Arizona University

This workshop is for those wanting to improve their audition/interview skills, in preparation for professional and academic jobs or entrance into graduate conducting programs. In addition to stick technique, the panelists will assess each conductor’s overall ability to connect with and improve the sound of an orchestra. 7 conductors will be invited to participate. Each will receive 40 minutes of podium time with the NAU Symphony Orchestra.

The repertoire is Dvorak’s Symphony No. 7 (select 2 movements).

Fees: $650 Participants, $100 Auditors, FREE for Auditors with NAU ID
