Assistant Conductor at the Prague Summer Nights Festival, summer of 2024

The Prague Summer Nights: Young Artists Music Festival  has one remaining opening for an assistant conductor for the 2024 festival. Assistant conductors are students at the festival, and will conduct in rehearsals, workshops and performances, and have the opportunity to work with leading faculty and conductors on full opera productions, orchestral concerts, and opera scenes programs.

Advanced college and conservatory students and emerging artists live and work in the beautiful, historic cities of Prague and Tábor this summer, while preparing and performing concerts and operas.

Highlights of this year’s festival for the orchestra will include:

  • Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9 “From the New World,” in Smetana  Hall in Prague, in a side-by-side performance with members of the Czech Philharmonic. Other orchestral repertoire this summer will include Brahms Symphony No. 1 and Dvořák Symphony No. 8.
  • Fully-staged opera productions of Marriage of Figaro and Don Giovanni at the historic Estates Theatre in Prague. Mozart himself conducted the premiere of Don Giovanni and led performances of Figaro in this historic theater, the only theatre in the world still standing in which Mozart conducted. These will be co-productions with the Czech National Theatre.
  • Masterclasses, coachings, mock auditions and performances with master clinicians from the Boston Symphony, the Vienna Philharmonic, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Czech Philharmonic, the Concertgebouw, as well as the Prague Conservatory, the Eastman School of Music, the Juilliard School, the New England Conservatory, Oberlin, Boston University, and the University of Michigan..
  • Living and working in the center of Prague’s beautiful and historic Old Town.

Over the past several summers, Prague Summer Nights has drawn participants from 25 different countries, as well as top conservatories and universities, including Juilliard, Manhattan School of Music, Eastman, New England Conservatory, Peabody Conservatory, Indiana University, University of Southern California, University of Michigan, Northwestern University, as well as conservatories in London, Paris, Rome, Oslo, Hong Kong, Berlin and Vienna, among others.

“It’s much like taking lessons within a living, breathing music-history museum. If you think it sounds both dreamy and intense, you’re 100 percent correct.”
