About The Göteborg Opera

Our vision is to be one of the leading opera houses in Northern Europe. We work with a broad repertoire of opera, dance, musicals and concerts. GöteborgsOperan AB is a publicly-owned company within the Västra Götaland region with around 500 employees. In total around 350 shows are staged per year for around 250 000 visitors to the Main Stage, Small Stage and throughout the region. We have a turnover of around 500 million SEK. The Göteborg Opera is a diverse workplace with roughly the same number of male and female employees. The Goteborg Opera has an orchestra of 86 musicians, a choir of 46 singers and a soloist ensemble of 24 singers.

About the role

The Göteborg Opera is now looking for a conductor in the beginning of their career for a time-limited employment as Assistant conductor.

Duties

• Assist guest-conductors
• When needed conduct piano rehearsals, sectional rehearsals and orchestra rehearsals
• Conduct some concerts and performances

Requirements

• Higher education in orchestra conducting or equivalent experience
• Experience of conducting professional ensembles
• Fluency in English

Meritable skills

• Trained pianist with the ability to play vocal scores and recitatives
• Fluency in Swedish, Danish or Norwegian
• Knowledge of French, German and/or Italian

Terms

This is a time limited employment from August 2024 to June 2026. It is a full time position and working hours do frequently include evenings and weekends.

A first selection will be made based on the applicants resume (max 2 pages), cover letter (max 1 page) and video recording of the applicant conducting. The video must show the applicant from the front and be of good sound- and video quality and shall be provided as a youtube-link (listed or unlisted) in the application.

The application deadline is 11 June 2023.

A limited number of applicants will be selected for audition and interview at the Göteborg Opera on August 15th 2023. Repertoire for the audition will be sent to the selected applicants in early July 2023.
