Britten-Pears, Orchestral Conducting 2020

27 July – 8 August 2020

Antonio Pappano conductor • Valentina Peleggi assistant conductor • Britten-Pears Orchestra

Strauss Ein Heldenleben
Elgar Violin Concerto

Embedded in the Britten–Pears Orchestra week, this course is for emerging conductors who are keen to expand their skills through working on core, large-scale orchestral repertoire.

They will be taught in 1:1 and group sessions as well as private and public masterclasses with piano. Additionally they will have the opportunity to conduct the Britten-Pears Orchestra in a public conducting masterclass. Participants will also have ample opportunity to observe rehearsals and support sectionals. Alongside this they can network with, and learn from industry professionals in sessions focussing on a variety of relevant subjects such as outreach & education, agents, score preparation and other topics bespoke to the selected participants.

Some rehearsals and masterclasses will be open to the public.

For this course, we accept applications from young artists who are starting to work professionally as conductors and who have some experience of working with orchestras. There will be four places offered for active participants as well as four places for observers. Observers will have access to all sessions but won’t be taught individually.
